Participant Voices

Stefanie Schwarz

occupational therapist

Both the basic training as a salutogenic consultant and, even more so, the advanced training as a SalKom therapist were a journey for me toward greater self-regulation, full of healing experiences and profound expertise in applied salutogenesis. Theo Petzold, with his consistently calm manner, skillfully, compassionately, and respectfully guides the participants through their learning processes. In my work as an occupational therapist, SalKom helps me maintain a health-oriented perspective, which I can then share with my clients and thus spread throughout the world.

Jutta Mönch

doctor

By asking targeted questions, I was able to get to the heart of the problem much faster. And now I have the communication tools to work with the patient from that point to find the best solution for them. For me, letting patients find their own solution is also very resource-efficient – and more sustainable and satisfying.

INES FRITSCHE

Physiotherapeutin

During the exercises and discussions, I am always amazed at what happens when I discuss a problem with someone who treats me with respect, goodwill, and time, and asks the right questions.

ROLF BASTIAN

Journalist Coach

I feel less at the mercy of biographical influences, more consciously aware of my own autonomy – and, moreover, I trust that things that happen have a purpose. I consider the developmental process in conversation with clients to be the most important experience for coaching.

INES GILLERT

Nursing instructor

I have found that a salutogenic approach to communication resolves problems more effectively and sustainably. This gives me a new quality of life. My wish is that all healthcare professionals would acquire the ability to cultivate a patient relationship through salutogenic communication.

JÖRG EIKMANN

Psychologist and author

Thank you for the enlightening time, the experience of courage and confidence, and the respectful and loving interaction within and with the group. "But where danger is, there grows the saving power," as Friedrich Hölderlin said. True! And: "A truly good idea is recognized by the fact that its realization seems impossible from the outset" (Albert Einstein).

RALF-DIETER NEUHAUS

BVPPT

Theodor Dierk Petzold, specialist in general medicine and naturopathy, head of the Center for Salutogenesis, and founder of Salutogenic Communication SalKom®, managed to convey the essential building blocks of his complex model to us in just under two days. In a calm and pleasant manner, he shared his expertise and extensive practical experience with us. It also became clear how significantly the salutogenic approach complements the conventional, pathogen-oriented medical approach.

Excerpts from textbooks on salutogenic communication

Pamela Emmerling

Psychotherapist and communication trainer
Source: Medical Communication (2015) Chapter 6.8, page 212:

"Salutogenic communication – energy flows where attention goes… If today one in five citizens already belongs to a so-called chronic illness program, everything should be done from a medical and social perspective to enable these patients to lead self-determined lives despite their illness. The salutogenic approach in particular gives hope that the feeling of coherence will give patients more strength to cope with their everyday lives."

Peter-Ernst Schnabel

Emeritus Professor of Health Sciences
Source: Invitation to theoretical work in health sciences” (Beltz Juventa 2015), page 128:

“Experiences of coherence… promote people’s ability to create health… salutogenic communication… is a methodological orientation. Through it, doctors, therapists, and health educators should enable their patients, clients, and trainees to perceive lost and/or underdeveloped abilities, such as (need) signals… and to address them in a universally acceptable, i.e., self-regulating and communicatively competent, way.”

Theresia Friesinger

Speaker for Early Childhood Education and Inclusion; Communication Trainer
Source: “Feeling What We Need” (2012), pp. 149ff: Chapter 4.1.1.4), page 149:

Salutogenic communication of the future according to Petzold… “Communication designed in such a way that it simply benefits us and others and lovingly ‘awakens’ our hearts is salutogenic, meaning simply and plainly health-promoting. … This leads both to experiencing and creatively shaping a harmonious life that sets self-healing processes in motion… Petzold connects self-healing with harmonious communication in his salutogenic communication… ‘Successful approach is the result of a good interplay between our approach and avoidance behaviors. This concerns the core function of healthy and creative self-regulation.’”
